Breaking Up

That's it, we're through... me and the NHL are over.

If you did not read my previous post, please do so now before continuing on with this post.

Funny how this information is nowhere to be found on the NHL's web site, nor any US-based sports sites. It is only on a Canadian sports site. Click here to read the update.

So... because the refs didn't see it happen, it didn't happen? Well I didn't see the sun today because it was cloudy, so the sun must not exist anymore! That's the kind of ridiculous logic this is. This is not the first time there has been an issue with one player biting another, and the league doing squat about it.

Hartnell's attitude about the whole thing is revolting... playing all sweet and innocent and "I'd never do anything like that"... bullshit. All bullshit.

Another thing I must take issue with is "fans" of the Flyers or hockey in general who are now saying nasty things about Letang/the Pens, and how "this is hockey, be a man" blah blah blah. Yes, hockey is a rough sport. However, biting another player, especially so hard that they bleed, is completely uncalled for. To say something so ludicrous is like telling someone who was just hit by a car to 'man up' and get over it because they live in the city and there are a lot of cars in the city. It's insensitive and ignorant, and shows your complete lack of compassion as a human being.

I'm very unhappy with how the league decided to handle this situation. Oh by the way, their "disciplinary hearing" this morning with Hartnell lasted - get this - a whopping fifteen minutes total. Yeah... something smells fishy to me with this situation. Very, very fishy.

I am DONE supporting the NHL. No more. I'm sorry but I just can't support a league that is so lax in this... and yet last year a player was fined for saying something mean about an ex-girlfriend who was then dating another player? It doesn't make sense. It isn't logical, things do not add up. Playing favorites with people much, oh ye mighty powers that be of the NHL? I think so.

I realize one little person such as myself will not make an impact, but I don't care. I felt passionately about boycotting ABC Family when they canceled Kyle XY abruptly, in a horrible way, and well there is a lot more to that story I'll not get into, and I know as one person I don't make a lick of difference but I've stuck with it, that channel is banned from my home so you can bet your sweet patooty I can do the same thing with the NHL. No it won't make a difference to them... but it makes a difference to ME. I feel that strongly about it.

I will still support the Penguins, I will still watch their games and cheer them on just like I always have. I know that might, at first, seem hypocritcal... I realize I cannot support my team and yet not support the NHL as a whole at the same time. I'm not stupid. But... up till now, I'd watch ANY NHL game that was on tv; I am not going to do that anymore. The only games I want to see are Pens games.

Again, I know it won't make any difference to anyone but me. But I feel strongly about this. This is not the first time the league has handled a situation in a questionable manner... I've just had enough of it.

Well horse potatoes! You'd of thought they'd of at least had the decency to slap him on the hands with a fine or something.
I agree with you, that business about the 'ref's not seeing it' is ludicrous.
I know nothing about hockey but I do know something about bad sportsmanship and that biter & the leagues reaction is the epitome of it....

I understand your passion in this and I understand your continuing support of the Pens, I find no hypocrisy in your decisions.

Here's hoping for you to have a pleasant weekend.

I have to agree with Dee. It's ludicrous how stupid things are made out to be a big deal, but big things - like biting other players - are covered up the way they are.
